Go to espacenet website and do your own patent search using the free online search facilities and feel confident that the idea is new.
2. How are you going to earn money from your idea?
This is most often the area that budding inventors fail to pay attention to. Think about what business model you will need to fulfil your goals. Do you want to earn a lump sum fee and sell the idea, do you want royalties for everyone that's sold, do you want to have your own range of products, are they going to be made by your company
3. Have you though about the investment required to progress your idea to reality?
Developing and marketing a new product is a pretty lengthy and expensive exersise; don't expect to achieve it on a shoestring!
